Language and cross culture program
Uganda has various tribes with diverse cultures. With inter-marriages and internal movements of people, some languages are spoken almost everywhere in the country e.g. at border towns and major cities. Uganda has over 41 languages spoken such as English, Kiswahili, Luganda, Lusoga, Ruyankore, Rukiga, Runyoro, Rutooro, Kishahili, Acholi, Lango, Ateso, etc
At Sedate Africa Safaris, we offer language built on a Competence Based Curriculum through which learners are encouraged to efficiently handle/manage everyday life situations. Some of the topics on the Competency Based Curriculum include;
- Greetings
- Introducing self and everyday useful phrases
- Food stuff and ordering food in a restaurant
- Transportation
- Money and handling simple transactions
As languages are taught, cultures within that language will be discussed. However, their areas of different cultures that can be extensively discussed outside language lessons. Examples of such topics discussed are;
- The education system
- The medical system in Uganda
- The use of traditional medicine
- Uganda’s systems of government
- Tours to different places
NB.Learners can be given language lessons as a group or as individuals. Normally learners are given at least an hour or a maximum of four hours of language at our office or at their place of convenience. However, learners can also attend cross culture sessions separate from Language.

Home stay program in Uganda
The home stay program is designed to provide tourists opportunities to stay with native families to learn and have a life experience about Ugandan cultures and traditions for a set period of time. Uganda being a multicultural country tourist will live the specific culture of the people with whom they will live and also learn about other cultures. Furthermore, it will be an opportunity for Ugandans to learn and appreciate the tourists’ cultures.
Pre- enter and during this program, some of the areas for discussion include:
- Home stay orientation for both learners and families
- Safety and security
- The Ugandan family system and child up bringing
- Family sources of incomes and livelihood
- Acceptable dressing codes.
- Personal hygiene and health
- Guided tours of places of interest e.g. Kampala city, National parks and others
- Communication strategies.
NOTE: The families will provide you with a;
- Separate room
- Bed frame
- Clean mattress
- Breakfast and super during week days
- Breakfast, lunch and super on weekends and public holidays
- You will be required to provide yourself with the rest of the necessities
